Institute of Process Engineering (IPE) at the Chinese Academy of Sciences is delighted to announce the establishment of a collaborative PhD programme between Unilever, the Institute of Process Engineering (IPE) at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the University of Surrey. The UNIS collaborative PhD programme aims to consolidate our strategic research collaboration through training next generation of scientists in sustainable manufacture, multi-scale modelling, formulation and product engineering. The UNIS collaborative doctoral training programme will lead to the award of a PhD degree from the University of Surrey to the trainees.
As part of the UNIS collaborative doctoral training programme, we are now recruiting PhD candidates to work on the following collaborative research projects.
P1 - Highly viscous Multiphase flow in stirring tanks.
P2 - Novel composite batteries for energy storage(Na ion Battery, Li-ion batteries.)
P3 - Characterisation and molecular dynamics simulation of nano-agglomerates.
P4 - New materials and processes for air pollution control.
P5 - Numerical and experimental modelling of basket granulation.
P6 - Multiscale, multi-physics modelling of particulate flows.
P7 - Multiscale experimental validation of numerical modelling of particulate systems.
P8 - CFD-PBM modelling of multiphase flows. (bubble formation and distribution in reaction)
P9 - Temperature-sensitive materials for transdermal delivery: Process Innovation and structural optimisation.
P10 - Novel membrane emulsification processes for pharmaceutical cosmetic applications.
Candidates should have a first or upper second class undergraduate degree, or an MSc, in Engineering, Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Physics, or a relevant discipline. Previous research experience in related areas would be an advantage, but not essential. Successful candidates are expected to perform the collaborative PhD projects at both IPE in Beijing, China and the University of Surrey, UK, and will also have secondment opportunities at the Unilever R&D centre. Hence candidates need to be willing to travel abroad and to spend up to two years at IPE in China. Candidate should also be proficient in English and be able to meet the English language requirements for postgraduate applicants at the University of Surrey (https://www.surrey.ac.uk/apply/international#english), for example, with an IELTS score of 6.5 overall and no individual component lower than 6.0, or equivalent certification.
To apply, in the first instance, please send your CV and a covering letter stating the project(s) of your interest to Prof. CharleyWu (c.y.wu@surrey.ac.uk) for Surrey side or Ms. Weichen Liao (wchliao@ipe.ac.cn) for IPE side.
